Discover Komoon Thai Sushi & Ceviche - Bonita Springs

Walking into Komoon Thai Sushi & Ceviche at 3300 Bonita Beach Rd SW #101, Bonita Springs, FL 34134, United States feels like stumbling onto a neighborhood secret that locals quietly brag about. I first stopped by after a long beach day, craving something light but bold, and the mix of Thai flavors, sushi craftsmanship, and Peruvian ceviche immediately caught my attention. The space itself is relaxed and friendly, the kind of diner-style restaurant where staff remember returning guests and actually explain the menu instead of rushing you through it.

The menu reads like a conversation between cultures. Thai classics share space with sushi rolls and citrusy ceviche bowls, and surprisingly, nothing feels forced. From my experience, the Pad Thai leans authentic, balancing tamarind tang with just enough sweetness, while the Tom Yum soup delivers that bold layered heat Thai food lovers expect. On another visit, I watched a couple at the counter debating sushi rolls, guided patiently by the chef toward options featuring fresh fish flown in several times a week. According to FDA seafood handling guidelines, freshness and temperature control are critical for raw fish safety, and restaurants that follow these standards closely tend to deliver better flavor and texture. You can taste that care here.

What really stands out is how the ceviche is prepared. Unlike rushed versions I’ve had elsewhere, the fish is cured carefully in citrus just long enough to firm up without losing its natural sweetness. A staff member once explained the process step by step, mentioning how acidity, timing, and cut size matter-a detail that mirrors techniques recommended by culinary institutes like the Culinary Institute of America. That attention shows up on the plate, especially in the Peruvian-style ceviche topped with red onion, cilantro, and a subtle chili kick.

Reviews from Bonita Springs locals often mention consistency, and I’ve found that to be true. Whether dining in or ordering takeout, portions stay generous and flavors remain balanced. One family at the next table told me they visit weekly because the menu satisfies everyone, from kids who want simple noodles to adults craving sashimi. That family-owned feel builds trust, something that’s hard to fake in the restaurant world.

From an expertise standpoint, blending Thai cuisine, sushi, and ceviche requires real skill. Each tradition has its own rules, from rice preparation in sushi to spice layering in Thai dishes. When done poorly, fusion food can feel confused. Here, the kitchen respects each method, which aligns with what food researchers often note: diners respond better to fusion when chefs maintain technical authenticity rather than novelty for novelty’s sake.

There are limits worth mentioning. The dining room isn’t huge, so peak hours can mean a short wait, and parking around Bonita Beach Road can get busy during season. Still, those minor gaps don’t outweigh the quality coming out of the kitchen. Based on repeated visits, conversations with staff, and feedback echoed across local reviews, this spot earns its reputation through care, skill, and genuine hospitality.

  • My husband and I visited Komoon for the first time Saturday evening with 2 friends who had recommended this restaurant. There were about 6 other tables / groups of people when my husband and I arrived at 7:23 pm. Our friends arrived slightly earlier and had already gotten a booth for us. The menu is extensive and has a lot of variety. When the first server took our order, we asked for a separate check for me and husband - both couples would pay separately. I ordered green tea, miso soup, and chirashi. My husband ordered green tea, Coke with no ice, veggie roll with soy paper, and steak a la plancha. Our friend ordered green tea, curried duck, and appetizers of tuna tataki and naruto roll. Our friend's girlfriend ordered coconut sake and a Viper roll. The appetizers arrived at 8:24pm, but the wait for the main dishes felt extremely long as they arrived about 20 minutes later at 8:41pm. This means that from when we got there to when we ate the main dishes, we waited about 1 hour and 20 minutes. This was unusual since most of the other customers already left by the time we received our food... Anyway, the food itself was overall good. Minor details that could be improved: leaner NY strip steak without ligaments (we're from the northeast so we know what real strip steak quality is like and this was not it), octopus (tako) from the chirashi could be cut thinner for less rubberiness, drink order should be the correct amount as we received an extra order of Coke (that we paid for) but did not ask for. e're not in the habit of sending food or drinks back, so we just went with it. To prevent this type of confusion, we recommend having 1 waitstaff assigned to a table instead of 3 servers that were taking our orders during our visit OR have a shared ordering system that shows the specific orders for each check. This caused the last server to separate the check AGAIN, which took another 5 or so minutes asking who ordered what. I'm just glad we all remembered our orders, and it was easy, though it felt like double work (for us) that we were paying them for. This issue is why they lost 2 stars from their service, though everything else was 5 stars. As a side note, I did not use the restroom, but I was told by my husband that the men's room sink faucet was broken, so men were supposed to use "other one" according to the sign, but there was no other faucet except the women's restroom. There was also a bunch of Bruno Mars playing during our entire dinner, maybe someone is a fan? Other important and notable aspects about this restaurant: the place is relatively clean, booths are not sticky or greasy-feeling, menus are clean, and the raw food is fresh enough. I'd return here for the rolls, but not for the cooked food.

  • Great dinner with the wife. Probably the freshest seafood I've ever tried. Ceviche was smooth, and very fresh.

  • Great food, great service. Rainbow Poke bowl was delicious. The sushi rolls were fresh and very tasty. Antonio was very attentive and friendly. The price for the quality and variation of rolls was excellent. Liked it so much came back again. Would definitely recommend and come back to enjoy their delightful sushi when we return to the area.

  • The nicest people work here. Food is top notch. Strongly recommend the Tom Kha soup. They also had a sushi that was a Japanese Peruvian fusion that was fire. The ramen is also decent (see pic). Wish I’d taken a pic of the tom kha though, best item on the menu
